Travel info: How to get to the venue
From the Airport
When you arrive at Hong Kong International Airport, the easiest way to get to the city is with the Airport Express train, which you can catch from the arrival terminal. If your hotel is on Hong Kong Island (the location of HKU and all designated conference hotels), catch the train until the last stop (labelled "Hong Kong"). At Hong Kong station, catch a taxi to your hotel.
You can buy a ticket for the train from an attendant in the arrivals hall. We recommend purchasing an "Octopus" card, which is a stored value card that you can use with all forms of public transport (except taxis). When you leave Hong Kong you can return the card and receive a refund for the unused balance.
Getting to HKU
HKU is easily accessed by bus and taxi (Hong Kong's subway, the MTR, does not yet extend to HKU). We strongly recommend that you do not hire a car, you will find nowhere to park it and it is generally much easier to get around by public transport.
Taxis in Hong Kong are cheap compared to other major cities. Most drivers speak at least some English and will understand if you ask for "Hong Kong University". Taxis are plentiful and you should have no trouble hailing one in the street.
Once you have your Octopus card buses are easy to catch, to pay simply swipe your card as you board. All bus stops have signs listing the stops for each route.
When walking be aware that what looks like a short distance on google maps may actually involve a very steep hill.
